Christmas Bazaar | Celebrating in Rwanda

I am not a fan of celebrating Christmas (okay…I’m really adamant about it) before I have fully enjoyed all the fall flavors, pumpkin and gourd decorations, and successfully stuffed myself and enjoyed Thanksgiving leftovers. However, this last weekend, I couldn’t help but get in the Christmas spirit by attending the Christmas Bazaar sponsored by AIC. The Mille Collines (Hotel Rwanda) was the perfect venue to showcase over 60 vendors from across Rwanda to share their products and talents with the community.

Despite on and off downpours, my husband and I went through every corner of the Bazaar to find stuff for ourselves, a few gifts for others, and to make a list of the items we want to ensure we buy before leaving Rwanda next year. We loved seeing the tables of some of our favorite artists, cooperatives, and stores and finding new ones as well.

At the finale of the Bazaar, we waited anxiously for our chance to win one of a number of prizes including two round-trip tickets to Istanbul on Turkish Airways! Despite crossing our fingers and toes, luck was not on our side. We still won by finding unique items to add to the shelves in our house and memories of our time here and aided AIC in raising funds for charity.

A Christmas Bazaar wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from Santa Clause!

Now, we must pause all Christmas spirit until after Thursday’s festivities. But starting Friday, we will be putting up our tree and swapping out decorations for red and green ones! Happy Thanksgiving week everyone. May this week bring you delicious food, good company, and elastic waistbands! 🙂
